My First Toothbrush
May 1 2004 This very precious charcoal drawing, was created from a photograph I took in Sister Biane's centre in Cap-Haitien. After teaching the Moms and Dads of the toddlers, I chose about three children to capture with my digital camera. Josie Centritto mentioned to her best frind Anna Sponer my efforts in Haiti. After sending Anna several photos via e-mail this little darling was chosen as the main subject. Anna created the original drawing for the silent auction during the fundraising dance held at Our Lady of Lourdes on May 1 2004. When it arrived beautifully framed, I cried with joy. Anna had captured the innocence, yet wonder looking into my eyes in October 2003. I gazed on it many times wondering who would win the bid and the honour of taking her home. Little did I know that my dear family placed the final bid just before closing which mean't she would be coming home with me. Andrea spoke many kind words as she presented it to me in front of everyone at the dance. "My First Toothbrush" is now the official photograph for Healthy Smiles For Haiti.
