This is little Albert's Great Grandmother Alna Widernise. She carried Albert many blocks to see me in Cap-Haitien. As we chatted I could see in her this worn body. Clear evidence of a hard lived life. She explained how many of her children and grandchildren had died and now she is responsible for nine great grandchildren living with her in a tiny two room house. As she sat beside me I could see the pride she took in her appearance, her good dress and her Sunday hat. When I surprised them in February 2005, she quietly disappeared into her home, only to quietly reappear dressed in her finery - hat and all. Bless you dear lady.
